Keep'em coming and smooth seas. More later. TURTLE! __________ Sent 11/06/00In Annapolis today. This is Paul's last day on the Sturdy Beggar. Had lunch with Paul and his mother before Paul left. He may come back on further along the route. Headed across the bay tomorrow. Map: Annapolis, MD to Tangier Island, VA __________ Rec'd 11/06/00Hi Rich; I am following your trek with envied enthusiasm. But of course, I am warm and dry each night and since the golf season is coming to a close I have little else to do except watch the leaves fall. I am impressed with your navigational skills---go Northwest-- to go South. Must have been a secret trick of "Wickey". Glad your making good progress to warmer waters. Thanks for keeping us posted. Dick Bee Sent 11/07/00Arrived in St. Michael early. The Cara was in Norfolk when I talked with them last. Guess they are moving along south. A lot of thin water here. Sounder alarm went off several times. Joan, I went to the Crab Claw Restaurant and had a good bowl of stew and crab cakes. Very good. Enjoyed the Marine Museum also. Headed for Tangier Island tomorrow weather permitting. Map: St. Michael __________ Rec'd 11/08/00Hey Dad. Greetings from 1 Prospect St. ! Sounds like you are making wonderful progress, it must be getting warmer by now, right? Everything here is just fine, Tim and Holly are still in remodeling mode, painting is done, carpet is in, bathroom almost ready for Tim to christen! How bout this election? Pretty exciting if you actually ignore the fact that one of those two bozos will actually be the next president! Hope all is well and that you are having the time of your life. We love you and miss you. K, B & L TAKE IT SLOW AND EASY CAPTAIN. LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU GET TO THE ABOVE 70 DEGREE AREAS AND I'LL TAKE A LEAVE OF ABSENCE FROM WORK TO BE YOUR PISS BOY. CAN I SAY THAT?? OH WELL. ALLS WELL IN CHELMSFORD. TAKE CARE POPS. DAN, TRICIA & MATTHEW Dear Rich, Well, at least you are underway! Marblehead remains the same. Their vote was liberal as could be expected. However, they voted their pocket books by voting for reducing the income tax down to 5% over the next three years and to allow charitable donations to be tax deductible. Gore/Lieberman got almost a 2 to 1 over Bush/Cheney. Kennedy got about 70% of the vote. Good grief! How times have changed. Rec'd 11/09/00Punt, I'd love to crew for you . . . . By the time you get to the gulf maybe I can be of some service. Hang in there. Up for air. Bug sends Sent 11/09/00Am still in St. Michael. Tried the engine after dinner last night to run the refer. Click, click, click. It was too late to look at it. Got up at 5 this morning, found out it was the solenoid. Waited all day for phone calls re: a new part. Will be here until a replacement arrives then on to Tangier Island. Rain and wind so I am not missing anything on the bay. __________ Rec'd 11/10/00Dear Captain Punt: Things are beginning to sound like they're looking up. Your mention of chowder, crab cakes and Tangier Island brought back a very pleasant, recent memory. I was reading a book by Patricia Cornwell, awhile back, the title eludes my feeble memory, whose heroine, Kay Scarpetta, is the Medical Examiner of the state of Virginia. At any rate, in this book, she has a friend who lives on the Island who gives her a recipe for Tangier Island Crab Cakes. The recipe, as part of the plot is printed in this novel. I copied it out of the book and tried it. They were some of the best crab cakes I've ever eaten. It's, I know, comparing apples and oranges, but the only seafood I've enjoyed more are steamers from the North Shore, and on occasion, a good, tasty chicken lobster. Thus, the moral of this tale is that when you reach Tangier Island look for a place, although it's probably only a figment of Cornwell's imagination, for a joint that serves Tangier Island Crab Cakes. You can be the judge as to how good they are, particularly if such things do exist. Meanwhile, keep your sails dry and full of air. More later! TURTLE! PS: TANGIER ISLAND CRAB CAKE Anyhow, Kay Scarpetta thought they were great and so do I. Try'em! PS: A picture of the Cap in Old Saybrook from the Cara via Ellie. _________ Sent 11/14/00Sturdy Beggar left St. Michael mid Monday morning after the mechanic checked the engine. The wind was right on the nose. Sailed for 3 hours. Turned on the engine and arrived in Deale, Maryland on the western shore about 3:00. Tied up a marina, about 400 boats, many live-aboards. One owner was installing a wood stove on his boat. Have a double reef in the main. Wind forecasted to be 15 - 20 kts Tues. Will head for the Potomac River. Access to computers is limited and they are very slow. Map: St. Michael , MD on the eastern shore to Deale, MD on the western shore _________ Mr. O, How are you?
